Students in 6th grade Art focus on learning the elements and principles of Art, looking at Art from different time periods and using a variety of materials to create the projects.
By learning the terminology of the Elements and Principles, students have a common language in which to start talking about a piece of Art in a class critique. For example, we can focus on how Vincent van Gogh used swirling LINES and TEXTURE in his painting of Starry Night to evoke a feeling or a mood.
Specifically, students learn techniques such a One Point Perspective Drawing, drawing from Observation, using laws of Facial Proportion. and Color mixing and theory.
Some of the Materials they will work with include: markers, colored pencils, charcoal, watercolors, tempera paint, tissue paper and paper sculpture.
